Rider Feedback
Feedback 06/05/08: Hi, I ride with the overgloves on most times when its raining, but never have I ridden in rain, sleet, hail and snow like I did on Saturday 3rd of May, we did our annual club fundraiser for the Chomley Home and it was the wettest ever riding. I was the only one out of 17 that had dry warm hands. I think there will be some orders coming your way. 2 club members have already bought from you.

Feedback 08/03/08 (not only good for your bike!): You will be glad to know your rain-off gloves work well with my snow blower, last week 16" of fresh snow in my driveway and I wore them over my regular gloves and with the heated grips and the Rain-off gloves on, my hands were nice and warm and most of all DRY. thanks again Peter Allen, Colorado, USA.
Feedback 28/12/07: Just wanted to drop you a note and express my utmost
appreciation for your Rain-Off overgloves. My name is John Littleton and I'm located
in East Tennessee in the U.S., at the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. I
took a little ride 'n camp over into North Carolina the weekend before Christmas,
and ran into a little bit of everything as weather goes. Your overgloves did indeed
keep my hands warmer in the cold temps I encountered on the way over...and kept
my hands bone dry in the hundred miles of pouring rain I encountered on the way
home. All in all, 650 miles in some nasty winter weather, and your overgloves were
worth every penny! Also want to add for folks that might read this feedback, that
my order was processed and received as quickly, or quicker, as anything I've order
from companies here in the States. Thanks for a quality product and good service.

Feedback: The riding season is over here in Ontario Canada... Anyway,
this summer we did a tour of the east coast and had a chance to try out your gloves.
I did direct comparisons with your product against my "waterproof" insulated gloves.
200 km each in cool, rainy conditions. Your product was definitely better and fully
waterproof. As an added benefit due to the wind protection of your gloves, I was
able to wear thinner gloves underneath and as a result, got better heat transfer
from the heated grips. All in all, a great product that full delivers as advertised!

Now speaking of "warm & dry" here's another product I can wholeheartedly
recommend.... and this one I'm pretty sure you haven't seen before. These are "Motorcycle
Overgloves" from a New Zealand company called Rain-Off. I've
not seen them anywhere before a recent ad in Thunder Press caught my eye.
After visiting their website at www.rain-off.com I was hooked. These overgloves
slip over one's regular riding gauntlets and absolutely prevent moisture from penetrating,
even when riding for hours in our recent record-setting downpours!! The seams are
welding, not stitched. And since the material "cannot leak" (their claim
verified by my experience), and are windproof as well, your leather winter riding
gloves will keep your hands warmer too.
They are made from an extremely thin material {we would like to add 'durable'
too} that takes up very little space when not in use, just fold em up
and stow em in your pocket when not needed. Yet they are long enough to reach comfortably
above the wrists of my rather large (XXXL) riding gauntlets and in addition feature
an elastic drawstring to crinch around the forearms to prevent rainwater from running
down my sleeves into the upper end of my gloves. I sensed no added bulk while wearing
them and in fact I think I get a slightly better grip on my levers while using them
in the rain. They come in five sizes ranging from XS to XL. Having large hands,
I opted for the XL. I could've gotten by with the Large since they run bigger than
US sizes we are used to.
There is a means to determining your correct size on their website. If it sounds
like I'm pleased with this product, then I have gotten my point across. Mention
Tacoma HOG when you order them. You will have them within a week.
See y'all out there in the rain.......no excuses now!

Yes, these are for friends. I bought a pair last year and they are, without a doubt,
the BEST rain gloves I have ever purchased. And I have tried a lot of different
choices. Your product should be a "must have" for every bike rider.

Well done for remembering!!! Nope, this pair is for my daughter as we are going
on a 4 day trip round the West Coast in a couple of weeks and it might get a bit
damp!! I'll still get a pair for BJ later on - maybe for Xmas! I've found the gloves
are great and the rain doesn't get through them. I haven't had any difficulty using
my controls with the gloves on. I've also found that when it's really cold (and
boy can it get cold in the South Island!) but not raining it's good to wear
the gloves because they cut out the cold wind and your hands stay warmer. We did
a ride in December and spent all of one day in rain and the gloves worked a treat.

My 1,700 mile tour from UK to Sweden was wet some of the way and the gloves were

gloves dry. Well done to you all at Rain-Off. Regards.

I have now been using your overgloves for two years and they are everything your

Hi Julie
Feel like I am family too, my sister is learning to ride a bike so I am setting
her up with the gear I find that works. Getting cold over here (not as cold as your
area though). The overgloves are great no problems at all.
Will recommend at any time I can.

Just a very quick note to say how successful the gloves were on the Southern

well as rain and have to say they worked out really well.

Product of the Year (So far) Over gloves.
Straight off I am going to admit to being skeptical about "Water Proof " claims.
Over the years I have heard most things and have disproved all of them. This one
is the one that shot me down.
These over gloves are water proof - totally, completely, They fit over the gloves
and stop wind and rain. I'm not a great fan of the toggle system to pull them tight
and prefer to pull jacket sleeves over the top but they keep the water out and the
warmth in. They appear to be robust enough to get a few years wear out of. They
have welded seams.
They look a bit strange with a thumb and forefinger and the other three fingers
as a mitten style. This allows the forefingers to be used separately if desired.
They are made in NZ - if you want more info or to orders go to www.rain-off.com
and if you have any questions ask Pat.
These come with my personal recommendation as the first waterproof product I have
used that is still waterproof after many uses. Go for it guys, these are good -
tell Pat that Lee Rusty sent you.

Hey Pat. I've raced in your gloves and they work deadly.....no restriction in the

rained the last two weekends racing here so I ran away with 5 wins and 2 2nds and
a 3rd place. I won two races with prizes from Suzuki of $2000 for the win. I have
an 8 hour endurance race next weekend with my teammate and then some more sprint
races in Oregon and then back to Eastern Washington to race the following and then
down to California the following to race AMA at Infinion Raceway....That one is

I appreciate (all too often gloves are too short and the elements get in around

Hi Pat
The news is all good.
Since purchasing the over-gloves I have only been riding on an occasional basis
but I have not always had the luxury of picking the days and have therefore run
into some foul weather when I have been out on two wheels and I no longer get wet
hands which makes me ever so happy.
I have also noticed that on the colder days my hands are kept warmer by having the
over-gloves on, even when there is no rain - a distinct advantage to retaining clutch
and brake control.
I would, and have, recommended the over-gloves to numerous people and will continue
to do so.

The overgloves are great Pat. I thought I read they were 15% warmer { he didn't,
I initially put a conservative 30% warmer} but I'd easily say they were
50% warmer.
Last Sunday I went up to Russell for a ride and it was absolutely chucking it down
the whole way up but I had the overgloves on and it was brilliant.....absolutely
brilliant. If you were in a car it'd be double wiper speed the whole way.
When I got up there my hands were dry as a bone! {English terminology to define
something very dry}. I've never worn gloves before that were that waterproof.
I was telling everyone on the trip about them and how I've never had waterproof
gloves before, and I've had a number of so called waterproof gloves and usually
after about two hours in the driving rain they get wet. But these were bloody brilliant.
I've never ever had dry hands before in conditions like that.
Wet gloves are a pain, your trying to get your finger in and it won't go .........and
your trying to get the bloody things on........shit, you know what it's like?
They're easy to operate with too, they're bloody great. I wouldn't go away now without
throwing them in my panniers.
When I did the 1000 miler ride last year I saw Jim Gault with a pair on and I said
"what the f----k have you got on your hands Jim?" because I'd never seen them before.
He said "these things are bloody fantastic". So I thought anything that keeps off
the rain as good as he says..........I'm in there. So I got in touch with you. They
take up no room either, whereas another pair of winter gloves take up a bit of room.
I put them in my pocket thats how small they pack up.

Hey Pat, here's some feedback on your overgloves. Roadhawk NZ Harley Tours tour
New Zealand rain or shine and on one of the wetter tours I put on my Rain-off over
gloves. After 3 days of riding in rain and South Island cold temperatures my hands
were not only dry but also warm, if fact after the first few kms I did not even
know I had them on at all as the "feel " was still great. I would personally recommend
your Rain-Off over gloves to any one who is into serious winter riding and will
offer them as a first choice over glove to all of my clients.

Hi Pat and Julie, See attached photo taken at the Arctic Circle ! Just to let you
know that the gloves worked perfectly !! It rained virtually every day of the last
week of my two week vacation but the gloves kept me dry !! I am very impressed.
And you can tell other people I said so.
So, your gloves kept me dry and warm on a trip through northern British Columbia,
Yukon and Alaska, including a ride to the Arctic Circle".
John Stephens.
John's first e-mail to us below;
Hi Julie: Looking forward to the gloves ! Ironically, the last time I bought a glove
similar to what you sell was while I was in the UK. I figured that if any country
knew how to make great gloves for rainy weather it would be the UK. They turned
out to be terrible (bad seams, and very good collectors of water inside glove !!)
So when I saw the New Zealand offering I thought I'd give them a try !! Some day
I would love to tour your country !! As far as Ontario weather and riding. I am
virtually guaranteed riding from April 1 to Nov 1 each year. It gets very hot herein
June July and early August. Often 30C and very high humidity. I hope the gloves
arrive fairly quickly as I have a trip planned to Alaska, Yukon and Northern British
Columbia . . so it will be great opportunity to test them out !! I heard about you
from some on line users group. I think it was the LDRiders group (Long Distance

{How are you going with the overgloves?} Good, they're fantastic mate.
Just about everyone I ride with down here has got a pair now, they're good. {Are
you finding them 100% waterproof?} Oh shit yeah no problem at all and
I've been through some pretty wet weather, they keep the cold out as well, they're
bloody awesome. You can spend hundreds {of dollars} on gloves and none of them bloody
work. We were down the South Island last year and all the other guys we were with
were dripping wet. Me and my brother had your overgloves on and no problems at all.
The other guys we were with had to pull over to the side of the road, rubbing their
hands together and all this sort of bullshit, so they were bloody good.

I have been riding for over 40 years, and have been looking for a waterproof glove
for over 40 years. I have bought many that claimed to be water proof but were not.
I recently bought my first pair of Rain-Off's and on a recent trip rode for over
4 hours in cold (35 F) rain. My hands and gloves were dry and warm. I just ordered
my 3rd pair for my daughter {the second pair were for my brother}.
I have been telling everyone I know about the gloves.
{Terry's first e-mail to us below}.
I have been riding since 1965 and in that time I have spent a lot of money trying
to find good waterproof riding gear, without a lot of success.
I have a Tourmaster suit, electric liner and gloves, Totes rubber overboots, and
Frogg Toggs for the rain.
I have tried many 'waterproof' gloves but have yet to find some.....I keep hoping.
As to how I found you, I just Googled 'waterproof motorcycle gloves' and got a site
that had tested your overglove. They said they didn't leak.
I hope they are right.
I got one set for me and one set for my brother who also rides. I will let you know
how they test out.

{Do you find them good for the cold?} Yeah, they definitely help.
I suffer from cold hands.
But they're good, I'm quite pleased with them. A little restrictive but you're always

{30% warmer?} Yeah, much warmer, if someone had said to me "what are

But once I put them under my jacket....they were fine after that.....no problem

Hi Pat. Well, I have given the Rain-Off's a good workout on my trip to New Plymouth
and back. The trip up on Saturday was straight forward with 1 or 2 showers and a
cool wind. Heading home to Otaki on Monday was an entirely different story. Bitterly
cold wind and heavy rain through the Wanganui area which cleared south of Turakina
but the cold conditions prevailed. Arrived back in Otaki 6.00pm. Found the Rain-Offs
to be 100% waterproof and although my fingers were on the cold side they would have
been frozen without them. Not bad when you consider that my gloves are summer-weight
units and cheap ( $45.00 ) I don't think you would get much worse riding conditions
in the North Island than what we had over the weekend. Summing up, very pleased
with the Rain-Offs. You may have a few inquiries as have shown them to other riders
while in New Plymouth. But all in all, very pleased. Many thanks for the good service.

{How are you going with the overgloves?} I haven't used them much.
I don't like the rain. But I'm pretty happy with them and they definitley make my
hands warmer. {How do you find them to ride with?} Good, the gloves
I've got are pretty much full on sports gloves and they've got carbon-fibre bits
over the knuckles and I've got fairly big hands bit they fit over them just fine.
So I'm happy and everything's fine.

Brillant, yeah I went down to the Brass Monkey { The Brass Monkey is a winter
M/C rally in the South Island of New Zealand} with them so that was a good test,
off and on rain all the way down. They made a big difference to my hands, I only
had thin gloves that I'd ripped the waterproof lining out of. What I liked about
them apart from keeping out the wet was I had good feeling of the handlebars and
the levers. My hands still got cold.....after all it's the middle of bloody winter
down there but my hands didn't get agonisingly painful. But it takes a long time
though {to get cold that is} I had them on more or less the whole time really -
they were brillant. A couple of guys were asking about them so I showed them your
details on the glove.....they had those other ones that strap to the bars, they're
hidious and I don't think they're as good as the ones you make. Another thing is,
when your cold and wet your concentration slips a bit too. I'm more than happy with
them and I'd recommend them to anyone.

{How are you going with the overgloves?} OK, but we really haven't
had such a bad winter down here but I carry them in my saddle bag all the time just
in case. I've been out in the rain when it's been spitting pretty good......Yeah,
I've got absoloutley no complaints and they're there if I need them.

{How are you going with the overgloves?} Yeah, I quite like
them but I found them too hot. This is not a complaint or anything and I'd say 99%
of the market would think they're great. My friend has a pair and he raves about
them but he has heated handlebars too so he feels the cold whereas I don't seem
to. I wore them to the Brass Monkey down south and they were great in the rain and
cold, but up here I found them a bit hot. I guess I've got a really good pair of
gloves but they get a bit wet in the rain without the overgloves though.

Hi Pat, I used the overgloves until mid November and have only started wearing them
again continuously last week as winter is setting in. I estimate that the overglovers
were worn constantly for 5 to 6000k commuting to work from August to November and
do everything I expect of them. My trip home tonight was 43k in a very strong wind,
sleet (almost snow) and rain. With my hot grips and the Rainoff overgloves cold
hands were not a problem. It is great to see that you now have a range of sizes
so perhaps I purchased mine a year too early. But I am not complaining as you were
starting to develop your product and they were exactly what I required {this was
Brian's first e-mail to me when I only made one size overglove. I sent him another
pair as the first pair were too big and his response is in the Feedback below}.
I am not going to the Brass Monkey this year but I hope you have some there as the
snow is down to 300m at the moment.
Feedback: On second pair of overgloves: {Hi Brian, how are you going
with the overgloves} Excellent. I put them on and I haven't taken
them off! {he means this literally, he never takes the overgloves off his bike gloves,
leaves them on as one} I ride 42km's one way to work and the frosts get as low as
-8 degrees below 0 so you get cold but not uncomfortably so. {Do you find them
100% waterproof?} Oh yeah, totally waterproof, they're "as good as gold".
They're just what I wanted.

{How are you going with the overgloves?} Yeah good. We've been pretty
lucky with the weather but wore them on a couple of trips to Christchurch and back.
We hardly hit any rain but they were good for keeping the windchill factor down.
It was good because we didn't have to put our big thick gloves on and lose the feeling
of the controls, so we just had our summer weight gloves on under the overgloves.
{Did you find them comfortable to ride with?} Yeah. They look large
when you put them out on the table but when you put them on your hands with your
bike gloves on they fit good. I'm positive about them and I think they're a great
idea.

{How are you going with the overgloves?} Great. I had them for the
Brass Monkey and we had some pretty heavy rain there for a couple of days from Tauranga
all the way down to Ranfurly and they were absolutely awesome. My hands were nice
and warm and they were really really good. {100% waterproof?} Yes,
they're really good, I've had wet hands for years.....so, I'm "thrilled to bits"
with them.

wet weather riding lately. I find them really good for keeping out the cold though.
They're also comfortable and easy to put on.

Hi Pat. Was given email address and very good report "first hand" of your waterproof
overgloves. We have just completed a 800km motorbike run over the weekend, including
some very heavy rain, and the usual wet gloves!!. Brian Stewart from Invercargill
was with us and wearing his overgloves and they were incredible, and he was the
only one with dry hands. Would be interested in details on obtaining a pair please,
price sizing etc. Regards Ian Lemon

{A very keen M/C riding club comprising of mainly ex-pat South Africians here in

Hi Pat, The African Eagles took a trip round the South Island in March this year.
There were 8 of us in all and only three of us carried your Rain-Off overgloves.
As you can imagine, with the March weather at the bottom of the South we had a lot
of rain. In fact, we had about 6 days straight of rain, including a trip into Milford
Sound with snow and sleet. Those of us with Rain-Off overgloves kept our hands warm
and dry, but the others got soaked and were relying on spare sets and trying to
get them dry in front of fires. One of our guys is a paramedic and uses his bike
for commuting to work from Waiuku every day. He liked the Rain-Off gloves so much
that I gave him my pair. I need to replace mine or be out in the wet cold too. Another
of the Eagles uses his bike for commuting every day too and he believes hot-grips
are not necessary, even in the winter, because the Rain-Off's keep his hands really
warm.
Thanks for a great product.

Could you plse fwd that to me? Thanks.
I recently bought a pair of your over gloves and have been "testing" them in the
frost-ridden nights of mid-winter Manawatu. They're great! Haven't had them in the
rain yet but they're obviously as waterproof as. They keep my hands significantly
warmer on those freezing trips up to Kimbolton on starry nights. I thoroughly recommend
them to my mates.

Hi Pat, I had the opportunity today to try your overgloves for the first time on
my 43Km commute to work and another 43Km home again. I ride a BMW K1100LT (without
heated handgrips) and although it was not particularly cold or wet today in Melbourne
(approx 7C and occasional > drizzle) on the trip in, even though I was wearing only
light leather gloves under the overgloves, I arrived at work with toasty warm and
dry hands. The trip home was cool also, about 13C and dry, again hands and fingers
were not cold.
One of the things I liked most is that I work in an access security area, and even
with your overgloves on, I was able to retrieve my access pass from the glovebox
of the bike and clip it onto my jacket, with no difficulty, for viewing by the security
staff. Very effective, and they will get more and more use as we head into the depths
of our winter.
Cheers Peter.

Hi Pat & Julie, just a quick note to say that since purchasing the "Rain Off" gloves
in May '06 I haven't had cold or wet hands. I use them on cold days whether its
raining or not and I've since been on several long rides through some very cold
and rainy Canterbury/Southern Alps/West Coast weather. I would now not be without
them.
I've referred several Ulysses Club, Canterbury members to your web site and they
reckoned that they would purchase some. During a ride last Sunday one of the members
advised me that he's just bought a pair from Eric Woods Motorcycles, Christchurch
who evidently are now stocking them? Well done on a great product that lives up
to your claims.
Best regards.

Hey Catfish, I had a chance to try out the gloves while coming back from the BMW
Rally in VT. I rode in moderate to heavy rain for 4 hours and gloves worked perfect.
No slipping on throttle or levers. I like the free index finger better than the
Aerostich gloves I had. Thanks again for getting them out quickly to me.

Hi Pat, I ordered 2 pair of gloves a month ago and went on a ride with a mate over
Mt Kosciusko last week and it rained on one day. I let him use my wives gloves and
said he liked them so much that he wasn't giving them back and said to order another
pair (which I have done). They worked well and we forgot we had them on while riding,
which is what you want, not to think about them. Had to stop to take them off when
the rain had stopped and the sun came back out, too warm!! We think you should work
on some boot covers as well!!

How are you going with the overgloves?
Good, I took them along to a Ulysses meeting {New Zealand & Australian motorcycle
club for members over 40 years} one night when it was pissing with rain and 'sung
their praises' so you probably got some inquiries from that.
The only thing I found was the overgloves were a little tight on my thicker Cortex
bike gloves when I tried them on, so another size of two x finger would be good
{At this time we only had one size overglove in the 'two finger' version}.
How did you get on down the south island, we thought you were pretty brave heading
down south in mid winter? Good, but I still got cold finger tips with the
overgloves on, so since then I've bought some electric gloves to go underneath.....they
cost about $500 {nz} but this is a good combination for extreme conditions like
I had. They class them as waterproof, but they're not.....I don't think there's
anything as 100% waterproof om the market except yours.
I totally enjoyed myself down there.....people say 'would you do that again?" and
I say too bloody right I would! I had rain, sleet and snow....every leading edge
on the bike had ice on it at some stage....including the overgloves. I had my ordinary
summer gloves underneath that were already four years old but even heated grips
didn't stop my finger tips from getting cold in those conditions.
I bought some cortex gloves the last time I was in the rain before I did the south
island trip and they lasted 20 minutes in the rain before they leaked whereas I
rode in the rain with yours for seven hours and was totally dry. I would have ridden
for about 16 hours over two days on the way down there in typical NZ winter conditions.
Summers coming on now but I still carry the overgloves, yeah, if it even looks like
rain they go straight on.

I've had the gloves for nearly two weeks now and they work perfectly. I was fed
up buying so called waterproof gloves and ending up with my hands covered in dye
from the gloves when they got wet!!!!
I had a 100 mile round trip a few days ago. It rained very heavily on the way back
and I was very impressed with the gloves....bone dry!!!!
When I saw the gloves first I thought they might make driving a bit awkward but
they didn't. They also were surprisingly warm. They are a must for wet weather bikers!!!!!
